What is Small Town Top College?

STTC focuses on assisting small-town students who have decided to aim high in the college process. Many students grow up believing that the best colleges are out of reach for those who come from rural or more isolated areas. Along with a collection of resources, the site has accumulated a number of success stories that show that schools like Harvard, Yale, MIT, and Stanford are available to those who didn’t go to private or prep high schools.

To be clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with attending a community college, junior college, or local university. About the Author

My name is Pat. I started STTC because it’s a resource I wish I’d had when I went through the college process. I grew up in Archer City, Texas (pop. ~1,800) and was lucky enough to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for college. I’m definitely not a genius, but I got in and was able to push through four tough years to graduate in 2014 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I’ve never been pushed harder or had as much fun as during those four years, and I believe that more small-town students should have that experience.

Your College Path

Thousands of small-town students are driven and intelligent enough to get in and succeed at top-ranked universities. However, many won’t even apply. In almost all cases, the perceived impossibilities of attending can be overcome with a little bit of research, work, or flexibility. My college path lead me from a ranch in rural Texas to an urban campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Being from a small town does not have to limit your possibilities. Where will this path take you?
